The Company's roots go back four generations to the times when steam and diesel engines did not exist and ships were propelled by sails! These were the times when shipowners were also the captains of their ships and their family the crew. Those days ships were maximum 1000 tons and cost about 3000 pounds sterling to build!

In the following pages one can see the evolution of the PITTAS family businesses from the late 19th century to the early 21st. Through this brief historical flashback one can get a feel of how shipping, as a whole, evolved during the last 130 years.
